PCB Testing Services for Electronics Manufacturing
Last updated: July 21, 2026
Testing is an integral stage of the design, development and manufacture of your electronics product. As part of our PCB testing services, MPE does not carry out batch testing. Instead, our internal Quality IPC Class 3 certified team uses a variety of electronic testing services to assess the performance, reliability and safety for use of every individual PCB assembly to your specification.
This approach ensures every product meets the required standards for high-reliability application. Learn more in our guide to PCB testing methods.
In-house PCB testing methods
We provide the following PCB testing services in-house testing methods as a critical stage in our PCB assembly services, or as a standalone electronics testing service:
AOI Inspection Services (Automated Optical Inspection)
Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) is an advanced PCB inspection service whereby advanced optics, cameras and image processing technology are used to visually inspect for defects, surface feature errors and quality issues during production. Our AOI inspection services offer consistent quality control across all PCB assemblies. Find out more about our AOI service.
Functional PCB Testing
Customer-specific functionality testing entails testing in accordance with desired product characteristics. This is typically carried out manually using bench-top testing or by using Automatic Test Equipment (ATE). Our functional PCB testing services validate real-world performance and ensure assemblies operate as intended within their application.
PCBA testing is pre-emptively factored into the PCB assembly production process when contracted to do so. All information is meticulously communicated to ensure on-time delivery of your product, along with corresponding technical specifications, supporting a seamless and efficient manufacturing workflow.
PCB Testing Methods Overview
| Testing Method | Purpose | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| AOI Inspection | Detect visual defects | During production |
| Functional Testing | Validate performance | Post-assembly |
| Environmental Testing | Simulate operating conditions | High-reliability applications |

Environmental PCB Testing
On-Site PCB Environmental Testing Chamber
PCB environmental testing uses a specialised environmental chamber to simulate a range of operating conditions, ensuring circuit boards and assemblies perform reliably in demanding environments.
Having invested in our own environmental test chamber, we provide in-house environmental PCB testing services backed by extensive technical expertise. Our team tests products according to customer-defined profiles, ensuring accuracy, repeatability and efficiency throughout the product development process.
Different products require different levels of testing. PCB assemblies designed for harsh environments typically require more extensive testing, including exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity and vibration. Assemblies intended for less demanding applications may only require targeted testing to verify performance, functionality and long-term reliability.
